Begin your journey into one of the most creative and versatile professions in the world.
At Schwarzkopf Professional, we are passionate about the power of education. As your partner in craft, we’re here to empower you to reach your full potential as you progress in your career.
Perhaps you’re just starting out in the industry, are a stylist wanting to enhance your skills or a salon owner looking to give students the opportunity to begin their hairdressing career. In the first instalment of our Start Your Job Right series, we cover everything from hairdressing initiatives within schools and the value of qualifications, to how our blended learning approach can provide impactful upskilling opportunities.
In hairdressing, professional and certified education lays the groundwork for building a successful career and comes with a wide range of benefits that could make all the difference when starting out in the industry, including professional credibility, hands-on skills, career opportunities, increased earning potential and improved confidence.
We caught up with Kay Brady, Head of Education at Schwarzkopf Professional UK, to find out more about hairdressing education and the collaboration initiatives within schools, and how they’re helping to kickstart careers within the hairdressing industry...
“Within college education with Schwarzkopf Professional, there are workshops such as World of IGORA and Creative Hair Colour Techniques, to name just a few. We give certification on a range of courses, from colour knowledge to cutting techniques. Having certifications helps to lay the foundations for a successful career path, opening up a choice of salons to work in and should give a taste of what education can do to enhance their career. Education is key in this industry to grow, as innovation is also a big part of the hairdressing industry, so learning is vital and never stops.”
“Many schools hold open days with the option to attend with a stand and showcase the brand and hairdressing industry – 2-week trials working within certain hairdressing salons or training academies could be offered to students. Training schools have links to colleges to partner their development programs, for example in the UK, The Fellowship for British Hairdressing have many connections with colleges and have integrated a premium level distinction.”
“Having more initiatives within schools would be extremely beneficial to prevent the idea that hairdressing is for non-academic students. Whilst being creative is just as important, there is great potential for business minds and successful growth.”
