Essential Looks: Pure Collection

The five key trends for the spring/summer 2010 have something for everyone:

UNIFORM

In many respects, this look can be viewed as the exact opposite to Boudoir. Forget soft & fluffy, this look has taken its inspiration from military outfits & a strong utilitarian approach. Utility is a key concept throughout the entire trend & designers have embraced it with open arms. Undoubtedly the trend of the season, this direction is underlined with genuine femininity as soft greens & khaki’s are mixed with skirts, dresses & body enhancing belts.

CYBER SPORT

The aquatic theme has certainly been ‘making waves’ this season. Heavily influenced by surfing & diving, this trend draws inspiration from the neon coloured, body-hugging, neoprene wetsuits popular in the late eighties & early nineties. Heavy stitching & bright acid colours have been transformed into stunning piping & layering, accentuating the female form with mesh & using sheers to emphasise natural silhouettes.

PUNK GODDESS

Don’t be misled by the name, this trend represents a stunning & elegant fusion of previous Glamazon & Dark Amazon trend directions. The look is one of confidence & sexuality, they may be apocalyptic, but these Goddesses are more Balenciaga than Blade Runner!

BOUDOIR

If femininity could be personified by a single trend, it would be Boudoir. This trend has links to previous trends such as 40s Romance & Sunday Best, however, there’s a big difference. Boudoir represents the maturing of the direction from a kitschy girl into a smouldering woman. Underwear becomes outerwear; not overtly sexual, more of a subtle flirt. Innocent beauty coupled together with elegance & style.

NEW REBEL

This trend represents the very essence of counter-culture; a pure, undiluted encapsulation of teen angst. Think Kurt Cobain from the 90’s band, Nirvana. A look which all parents will hate their offspring to wear! Personalisation is the key that creates this carefully crafted uniform of youth. With a hint of the grungy 90s, expect denim & lots of it, slouchy jerseys & T-shirts. As much as what you wear, it’s about how you wear it!
